The maple leaf card expired? Don't panic, here's a solution!

If you are in Canada

If your maple leaf card has expired, there is no need to worry. You still have nine months to apply for a new maple leaf card. As long as you meet the conditions for reissueing a maple leaf card, such as residence qualifications and innocence, you can apply.

If you are not in Canada

If you are already outside Canada, the process will become relatively cumbersome. You must first obtain one (PRTD) in order to be eligible to return to Canada. After arriving in Canada, you can start applying for a new maple leaf card as long as you meet the relevant requirements.

Things to note

Even if you have a maple leaf card, it does not mean that you have lost your permanent resident qualification. When reviewing the application for extension of temporary resident identity certificate, the relevant department staff will refer to the supporting documents you submitted to determine whether you continue to meet the permanent resident conditions. If you are determined to have the corresponding status, the application will be approved. If you think you no longer meet the permanent resident standards after review, the application will be rejected.

If the PRTD is rejected, you have two options: appeal or voluntarily give up the PR.

I hope this information can help you and wish you a smooth update of the maple leaf card!
