What's going on?

Mr. Zhang's career in China has flourished, and he has spent almost 730 days in Canada in five years.

The living time period in Canada is:

It lasted only 730 days.

In April 2019, he received a rejection letter from the Immigration Bureau, saying that Mr. Zhang did not meet the residence requirements of a permanent resident and would cancel his permanent resident status.

Obviously I've lived for 730 days

Why did I refuse from the Immigration Bureau?

According to the Immigration Bureau's requirements, you must stay for 730 days within five years to successfully renew your card.

Mr. Zhang’s problem is “5 years”!

There are strict requirements for the "5-year time period" when calculating the maple leaf card.

Propose a point! "5 years" is the date of signing the renewal of the 5-year maple leaf card.

Mr. Zhang signed and submitted a renewal application in February 2019, so the five-year period of the application is from February 2014 to February 2019.

In other words, Mr. Zhang lived in Canada from August 2013 to January 2014 without calculating the time.

Finally, Mr. Zhang had to spend a lot of money to hire an immigration lawyer and appealed several times. The final result was changed to "continue to live until the residence requirements are met, and then reapply for a maple leaf card". ”

Despite retaining permanent resident status, I lived for 8 months before waiting for a new maple leaf card. Two major domestic trade projects were postponed and made millions of profits.

Now consider it, Mr. Zhang still regrets it.

Due to the pandemic, the official trial time has soared to 137 days.

According to the analysis of immigration consultants, the Immigration Bureau has greatly slowed down and even stopped processing of the maple leaf card update application.

There are two reasons for this:

01

Due to the epidemic, there is not enough manpower to deal with it.

02

The Immigration Bureau hopes to reduce unnecessary travel for permanent residents to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.

2021 will be another peak in renewal after 2015. In mid-2015, the Immigration Bureau officially processed the application for renewal for half a year. Six years have passed and when the maple leaf card expires, a large number of permanent residents must be updated.

Due to the large backlog of applications, the formal processing time may be increased to 6 months again.

In order to avoid delaying travel due to expired maple leaf cards, it is recommended that friends who are about to expired maple leaf cards submit their renewal application as soon as possible.
