Official rules for entering Canada

Canadian permanent residents taking flights to Canada must carry a valid PR card and present it if they take other commercial transportation to Canada.

If you do not bring your PR card or travel documents, you may not be able to board a plane, take a train, take a bus, or take a boat to Canada.

When you return from traveling outside of Canada, you have the responsibility to ensure that your PR card is still valid and to apply for a new PR card before the current PR card expires.

If your PR card has expired or is about to expire, then apply for a new PR card; if you are overseas, apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD) to help you return to Canada to apply for a new PR card (Canadian PR cards only accept domestic applications).

Update Canada Maple Leaf Card Conditions

To renew your Canada Maple Leaf Card, you need to meet the following conditions:

·Be a permanent resident of Canada;

·Submit your application within Canada;

·Meet the residence requirements: If you have been a permanent resident for 5 years or more, you must have actually lived in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) in the past 5 years; if you have been a permanent resident for less than 5 years, you must prove that you have the ability to actually live in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) within the 5 years after becoming a permanent resident.

·No deportation order has been received;

·Not a Canadian citizen;

·No conviction for PR card misuse.

As a permanent resident outside Canada, if you are outside Canada and do not have a valid PR card for returning to Canada, then you must apply from the Visa Application Center or the Canadian Visa Office, and obtain a permanent resident travel document, also known as PRTD.

Important information: When you return to Canada, you should apply for a PR card immediately.

You can apply to renew your PR card when the following conditions are met:

·Your card has expired or will expire in 9 months

·Your card is lost, stolen or destroyed

·You have not received your PR card within 180 days of immigrating to Canada

- Change nationality

Steps to Update Canada Maple Leaf Card

Step 1: Collect application materials

You need to collect the required materials with the help of the document list, and then send them to the IRCC Immigration Department together with your application materials, along with the final verified document list.

The key information is as follows: If any required documentation is missing or copies are illegible, your application will be returned. When processing the application you submit, the IRCC Immigration Department may ask you to provide more documents and information at any time. If you do not submit the documents required by IRCC, the processing of your application will be delayed.

1. Your PR card

When applying to renew an existing PR card, keep it until you get a new card and attach a copy of the old card to your application.

If you apply to replace a damaged PR card, you will have to send the damaged card along with your application materials.

Document format: original

If the IRCC Immigration Department requires you to go to the local IRCC office, you must bring your old card and the original documents corresponding to the copies attached to the application materials. The IRCC office will ask you to destroy the old card after getting the new card.

2. A primary identity document

Provide a copy of one of the following documents:

·Your valid passport or travel document;

When you become a permanent resident, you hold a passport for travel, or a travel document that covers the stamped passport page when you arrive in Canada and become a permanent resident.

·Proof of identity or travel document issued by the IRCC Immigration Minister or foreign government.

NOTE: Copies should show:

1. File type and number;

2. Issuance and expiry date;

3. Your name;

4. Your photos;

5. Your birthday.

How do I pay the application fee?

To pay the application fee, you need to:

·A valid personal email address;

·Use a printer (need to print receipt);

·Credit card or Canadian debit card

Remember, after you finally complete the payment, click that button to print two official IRCC receipts with barcodes.

·Attach one of the receipts to the completed application materials

·Keep another copy of the receipt for your own records

Tip, if you don't have a printed receipt, don't leave the current page. The printed receipt is your proof of payment.

Step 4: Email application materials

Put your relevant application materials in the stamped envelope, seal them properly, fill them out according to the envelope format mentioned below, and then send them to the address given below:

Emergency treatment

One is an emergency medical situation, the other is an urgent work need, and the third is an urgent family matter. In order to qualify for emergency treatment, you have to prove that you urgently need to get your PR card due to one of these reasons within the next 3 months.

·Traveling because of your own serious illness;

·Traveling due to serious illness or death of a family member;

·Traveling is required for work.

·Your application must include all of the following documents to demonstrate that your application requires urgent processing.

A copy of your travel certificate, such as a ticket or itinerary, showing your destination and dates.

·Copy of travel payment certificate showing date, full amount and method of payment;

·A letter explaining the reason for the emergency;

Proof of emergency, such as certificates issued by doctors, certificates describing the circumstances of death, and letters from employers, etc. Any documents that are not in English or French must be translated into English or French.

If you do not mail all this information, then the IRCC Immigration Department may not expedite your application.
