In the Asia-Pacific region, the applicant pass rate of India and the Philippines is relatively high, with India reaching 69%, and the Philippines reaching 89%.

Ming Pao disclosed that if Canadian permanent residents holding expired maple leaf cards stay in China, the approval rate for applying for travel documents in 2014 had dropped to 56%; however, by 2015, this rate rose to 89%. Nancy Caron, spokesman for the Ministry of Immigration, stressed that the Ministry of Immigration has not revised the relevant regulations on applying for permanent residents' travel documents, however, the number of people rejected recently has dropped. She pointed out that according to the relevant provisions of the Canadian Immigration Act, the loss of permanent resident status may occur in two specific situations: first, if the Immigration and Refugee Bureau (IRB) adjudicator determines that the resident is no longer in possession of identity after the trial; second, if an immigration official finds that he or she no longer meets the conditions for a permanent resident during the process of processing the travel documents for permanent resident applications, it will also lead to the loss of his or her permanent resident status.

Karen pointed out that there are two main reasons why the Tribunal or immigration officer determines that the permanent resident has lost his identity: one is that they have failed to prove that they have lived in Canada for two years in the past five years; the other is that they have committed serious crimes and have been ordered to leave Canada.

Although it is not uncommon to experience maple leaf card failure abroad, many people do not need to worry about not being able to return to Canada.
