An immigrant who returned to China recently returned to Canada to renew his maple leaf card but received a bill of RMB 100,000. The bill was released by a British Columbia hospital, saying she had to pay all the fees at birth and was hospitalized at a local hospital two years ago. The woman believes that she has always been a Canadian and is subject to taxation every year. As long as it doesn't affect the update of the maple leaf card, she will discuss the issue of future payments.

According to Pao, the woman became a skilled immigrant more than a decade ago and received her degree in business administration from Vancouver, Canada before choosing to return.

Two years ago, she came to Chia to deliver goods and was hospitalized for several days. One month after she was discharged from the hospital, she returned to China with her child.

A few months ago, the woman returned to Vancouver to renew her maple leaf card, but unexpectedly received a bill from the hospital to restore $100,000 in medical expenses, saying her childbirth would have to be paid by herself.

The hospital reportedly initially issued bills to the British Columbia MSP (Plan). However, because the woman did not reside for 6 months in the year of the child’s birth and had no records of the child’s local vaccination, she was not eligible for MSP and was rejected by the MSP.

Ming Pao reported that the woman had permanent resident status in Canada. Although she works in China, she requires someone to submit taxes in Canada every year when they submit taxes.

When she left the hospital a month after giving birth, the hospital did not ask her for money, so she believed that she could naturally enjoy benefits due to her Canadian identity.

At present, although the woman learned that she owed 100,000 yuan in medical expenses, she decided to renew her Maple Leaf Card first, so that the debt could be postponed.
