According to Canada Understand, the Canadian federal government has announced simplified provisions for applying for a maple leaf card in the latest statutory announcement. In the new regulations, applicants do not need to find professional citizens as guarantors, and applicants without guarantors no longer need to be sworn in.

According to the Immigration Department, from 2007 to 2011, there were as many as 120,000 maple card holders who needed to replace the card each year.

Immigration lawyer Wang (Wang) noted that it can be implemented on a date if the public does not have much objection. He said this is the first time since the Maple Leaf Card was implemented more than five years ago, and the Immigration Department has amended its application regulations, indicating that the immigration department has begun reviewing its enormous human and material resources for processing Maple Leaf Card applications.

120,000 people need to change the card every year

The maple leaf card was implemented on October 15, 2002. Many people who have obtained maple leaf cards have reached the deadline for changing the card. According to statistics from the Ministry of Immigration, from 2007 to 2011, about 600,000 people needed to change their cards, meaning 120,000 people needed to change their cards each year.

The reason for modifying the maple leaf card published on the maple leaf card is that the number of people who expect to replace the card will consume a lot of labor in the immigration department. Part of the application form required by the guarantor will be reviewed by the Immigration Department. Whether there is a guarantor will not affect whether the applicant is eligible. Therefore, the Immigration Department believes it is time to cancel part of the guarantor.

Since in the past, whether it was the first time to apply for a maple leaf card or to apply for a replacement, the guarantor must be filled in. If there is no guarantor's applicant, he must take an oath in front of the lawyer to confirm that the information submitted has not been forged. However, after the implementation of the new regulations, not only does the guarantor not need it, but also does not require the guarantor, nor does the oath part of the attorney need it.

Wang said it was a convenient measure, but that doesn't mean that the immigration department does not know whether the applicant is eligible when reviewing the eligibility of the maple leaf card.

For example, the immigration department could still require the applicant to provide their original passport or certificate of admission and exit records to prove whether the applicant has lived for 2 years in the past five years and has met the conditions of residence, and then decide whether to provide a maple leaf card.
